Cross Browser Support

eeSiteKit’s default navigation menu CSS has been tested in the following browsers:

PC: Google Chrome, FireFox, Opera, Safari, IE7 and IE8*

Mac: Safari, FireFox, Opera and Camino

* eeSiteKit does not attempt to fully accommodate IE6. However, limited testing showed that nearly everything does work in IE6. If you have to support this browser, eeSiteKit ships with alternate CSS and scripts to assist you.

Dynamic Navigation Systems That Work Together

Featuring navigation systems that dynamically adjust to changes in your sites’ content, are easily updated by content publishers, and support multilingual channel, category and entry titles.

Based On Unordered Lists: eeSiteKit’s default drop-down and sub-navigation menus are based on dynamically produced unordered lists, making them both accessible and flexible.

The default drop-down menu is formatted with updated CSS inspired by Son of Suckerfish, a freely distributed menu system that’s used on thousands of websites. We’ve given it some fresh CSS that handles things like text-wrapping within a drop-down menu item and evenly spaced top-row text-based links with multilingual support. This website is using the default drop-down menus with a couple of color adjustments to make it match this site design.

The great thing about having your dynamic menus based on unordered lists is you can always replace the default menus with your own favorite flavor of menus, and if you don’t need drop-downs, YAML also has a couple of great solutions that might work for you too. Several developers who use eeSiteKit swap out the default menus for Super Suckerfish and other popular systems.

eeSiteKit also keeps track of what page is being viewed so you can highlight the selected channel and category your visitor is viewing if your design calls for it. As an example, eeSiteKit is highlighting “Features” and “Dynamic Navigation” on this page.

Smarter Channel Headings and Sub-Navigation: eeSiteKit’s default sub-navigation dynamically matches the right channel heading and sub-navigation with the content the visitor is viewing. It also indents sub-categories and provides unique div IDs for each channel’s sub-navigation for channel sensitive styling. When there’s no content to display, the sub-navigation dynamically removes the link, preventing dead-end links to empty pages. And, when there’s no landing page, eeSiteKit removes the “click-ability” from the channel heading.

When visiting the “Features” channel of this site, the Channel Heading above the sub-navigation is a working link that will take you to the landing page of the “Features” channel. However, in the “Products” channel, there is no landing page to visit, so eeSiteKit removes the link code from the Channel Heading.

Dynamic Sitemap That Keeps Up With Changes To Your Site: eeSiteKit’s dynamic sitemap tracks the addition, closing and deletion of site pages for you, plus it always get’s the paths right avoiding broken links. This keeps your sitemap up to date and that makes for happier site visitors both human and search-bot.

Breadcrumbs Made Easy: Our dynamic breadcrumbs are multilingual-ready and content sensitive. That means that if there is no content on one of the individual pages in the breadcrumb trail, that breadcrumb won’t be click-able; it won’t offer a link to a blank page. All other pages in the trial will offer correctly formatted links. eeSiteKit’s breadcrumbs also include first-level sub-categories so your breadcrumbs can nest several levels deep. Hansel and Gretel would be proud.

Multilingual Ready: All of eeSiteKit’s navigation systems are multilingual ready so your visitors can navigate your site in their native language. All menus, sub-navigation and breadcrumbs will translate to any correctly configured language your site is set up for.
