The Template Installer Script for ExpressionEngine is inspired and informed by this post over on the ExpressionEngine site, which gave everyone a hint of one of the many cool new features planned for EE 2.0.
The Theme and Template Installer Script allows you to create your own site theme installer using the same template folder and file extensions we believe will be available in EE 2.0. You can start creating your own site themes today, and easily transition them for use in EE 2.0 once EE native site theming is available.
Are you an ExpressionEngine website theme designer/creator? We are interested in exploring relationships with EE theme designers who would distribute eeSiteKit (and the installer) as the site structure with their themes. If this is of interest to you, please contact us.
Planned Obsolescence? We openly acknowledge that EllisLab, Inc., makers of ExpressionEngine, has plans to release a theme installer as part of EE version 2.0 and that that will most likely make this script obsolete. We do not know exactly when EllisLab will release 2.0 though, or whether it will allow you to re-brand the installer, use it for distribution of your own themes, or if its theme installer will be part of the initial release or a later version. We also do not know if the theme installer will be included with, or functional with EE Core 2.0. So there is a chance that some people may find our script useful even after the initial release of EE 2.0. Once our installer script is obsolete, it will no longer be for sale here.
