Welcome to the eeSiteKit 2.0 User Guide

This user guide is a perpetual work-in-progress. We’ll be editing, refining, and updating it on an ongoing basis. If you should notice inconsistancies, omissions, or other perceived errors, you are welcome to submit them in the User Guide section of the Support Forums. We promise to take your ideas into consideration and we think you’ll find that we end up implementing a lot of our users improvements.

The Order of Things: We’ve made an attempt to place information into the User Guide in the order that you’ll need it the first couple of times you work with eeSiteKit. We recommend you try reading the User Guide from top to bottom while you’re setting up your first website with eeSiteKit. At a minimum, make sure you configure ExpressionEngine correctly for use with eeSiteKit.

What’s a Channel?: Our good friends over at EllisLab have officially announced that the term “weblog” is to be removed from the next generation of ExpressionEngine software. It will be replaced with the term “Channel”. We have fully embraced this change of terms in this User Guide. We still use the term “weblog” within example code (if we didn’t it would break your current EE site), but not when referring to Channels in the broader use of EE.

We’re going cold turkey with this. So think of it this way: channel => section => weblog. All three pretty much refer to the same systems and functionality in EE. If you are ready to embrace the change with us, navigate over to the General Configuration area of your EE control panel and change the “Section Designation Word” to “channel”.

Take Notes!: Its highly likely that eeSiteKit does things differently than how you’ve done them in the past. There is a learning curve here, even if you’re been using EE for several years. We feel that the benefits of working with eeSiteKit far out weigh the little extra time you’ll spend learning it.

Enjoy!: Have some fun with the kit, and be sure and post in the support forums if you get stuck on something.
