Installation Instructions for eeSiteKit 2.0

Before you install eeSiteKit, please make sure you have read the Getting Started with eeSiteKit instructions, that you have correctly installed ExpressionEngine 1.6.8, and that you have deleted or renamed any conflicting template groups in the site where eeSiteKit will be installed.

  1. Using your favorite FTP software, add the following line of code to ExpressionEngine’s configuration files in /system/config.php/ and /system/config_bak.php/ (remember that you may have renamed your “system” folder to something else for security reasons):
    $conf['template_loop_prevention'"n"
  2. Unzip / decompress the .zip file that you downloaded from the eeSiteKit website. You should now see a folder called eesitekit2
  3. Using FTP, upload the folder called eesitekit2 to the public directory on your server. This directory may have a name something like: htmldocs or public_html. It should be the same directory where you have EE’s /system/ folder (which might be renamed), /images/ folder, and /themes/ folder.
  4. Temporarily change the permissions of your /images/ folder to “777” (eeSiteKit will add a background image during install). Make a note of the original permission settings so you can reset it back after install.
  5. Open a browser and navigate to your EE website URL. Now change the URL so that you can see the eesitekit2 file. Your URL may look something like this: http://www.asitedomain.com/eesitekit2/ You may need the trailing slash before the installer will show up on some hosts. If you have a temporary development URL for this site, you’ll want to use it for this step. The installer looks just like eesitekit.com, so you’ll know when you have the URL correct.
  6. If you have installed EE’s Multiple Site Manager and have set up multiple sites in EE, you’ll need to choose the site you want to install eeSiteKit’s templates into. If you have only one site, it will be pre-selected in the menu.
  7. Click the Install button. You should receive almost instant verification that eeSiteKit has been installed.
  8. If you receive an error, then there is something you’ll need to correct before the installer can begin.
  9. Using your FTP software, remove the folder called eesitekit2 and all of its contents from your server. Leaving it on your server may pose a security risk, so please remove it now before you get distracted and forget about it.
  10. Reset the permissions on your /images/ folder to what they were previous to installing eeSiteKit.
  11. Log into your EE control panel and click on the Templates tab. You should see all of your new eeSiteKit templates installed and ready for you to configure.
